Hey girl, affiliate links are provided to help you find the products mentioned in this post.  Information provided is based on my opinion and personal experience.

You Need A Good Face Powder For Oily Skin

Having oily skin kind of sucks sometimes, doesn’t it?  It’s like we have to work so much harder to keep our makeup looking good.  There’s so much that goes into getting makeup to stay in place, and a big part of that is using the right face powder for oily skin.

There are so many powders out there, so how do you know what to look for?  Well I’ve tried many myself and there’s one type of powder that I find to be the most helpful at controlling oil.  And I’m here to share it with you 😉

IN A HURRY? >>  This powder has the right ingredient for oil control!

What’s The Best Type Of Face Powder For Oily Skin?

Best type of finishing powder for oily skin

I’ve always been an extreme analyzer, so I’m constantly looking at the ingredients lists on my cosmetics.  From my “analyses” I have come to find that the best type of face powder for oily skin is one that contains silica.

I first discovered this when I started using an HD powder that was pure silica.  I was amazed at how great it was at keeping my face matte.  From there I just started comparing all my powders and out of all the different ones I tried, those that contained silica just seemed to absorb oil and keep it at bay the best.

Since they’re so good at absorbing oil, I especially love wearing silica based powders for long days at work, daytime outings in the summer, and when I’m on vacation in a hot/humid climate.

When searching for a good oil control face powder, look for silica as one of the ingredients.  Some contain only silica and will be colorless.  Others will have different ingredients and pigments with less silica, but will still be really good for oil control (for the most part).

They can come in both loose and pressed forms.  Above are some face powders that contain silica.  I personally have used the top three, which are all really good.

This one is my favorite one.  For a drugstore alternative, I recommend the e.l.f. Prime & Stay Finishing Powder.  It’s surprisingly a great powder that’s super affordable!

A Cautionary Note…

This may or may not be a concern for you, but I do want to add a cautionary note.  As mentioned above, some silica powders are white.  White silica powders can cause photo flashback when you use too much.

So, if you’re going to be photographed with a flash, you may want to use a silica powder that’s pigmented.  I feel that most colored powders tend to cause less flashback due to the added pigments and possibly having less silica.

Even though both powders in the photo above contain silica, the white one is more likely to give me a white cast in flash photos than the one that has color.

I do own both types, but I opt for a colored powder when I know I’m going to be photographed.

If you feel like you need a more absorbent face powder for oily skin, then try one that contains silica in the ingredients.  I find that silica based powders are just the best at absorbing oil.

Remember, they can be white or pigmented, pressed or loose, and have varying amounts of silica.  I find  that regardless of the amount of silica, most powders that contain it tend to be good either way.  You’ll just have to test a few out and find what works best for you 😉
